In 'The New Reality' it's not about where you are anymore, it’s about who you are...
Although DISI is principally an operational International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO), at times we may also engage in advocacy campaigns and in this context the legacy model of where you are really does matter and therefore the optimal location for establishing an organisation needs some attention.
Sofia the Bulgarian capital city has been chosen as the location for the DISI international headquarters.

Why Sofia, Bulgaria:
This is in the context of:
- Bulgaria has a particularly advantageous geographic position located as it is in close proximity to the rest of the EU, Russia and other Eastern European countries, Turkey, the Middle East and the CIS countries
- Bulgaria is an established member state of some of the pre-eminent international organisations including the U.N., NATO, the EU, WHO, OSCE, Council of Europe and the IMF
- Bulgaria as a former Warsaw Pact country and now a member of NATO is ideally placed to provide a bridge between the East/West military and cultural divide as so entrenched during the Cold War and with elements of this same divide still surviving well into the 21st century
- Sofia situated in south eastern Europe, in the centre of the Balkan peninsula, is positioned close to many of the long term historic and present-day active zones of conflict
- DISI has long established relationships with government, the private sector, academia and other major stakeholders locally and in the wider region
- Sofia has been the location of the East-West Defence & Security Co-operation Conference (EWDSC) recently acquired by DISI and soon planned to be resumed as a scheduled event.
At DISI we respect diversity, gender equality and equal opportunities for all.
- The motto of the Republic of Bulgaria translates into English as: 'United we stand strong'.
